Sensor network to map and predict pollution, effluents in Godavari


Godavari, India’s second largest river is being investigated to stop the flow of pollution by a set of U.S. researchers.


✓ The searchers are seeking to evolve a cost- effective prediction system by using an amalgamation of various forms-tracking the satellites, trying to collect water sample from its core , using special equipments to estimate bacterial and pollution exerted by the chemical industries.

✓ Using the technical appliances and mapping methodology the researchers is trying to predict the vital and usefulness of detecting the pollutants that is entering into the river in the form of industries and human waste etc.

✓ All this investigation is section of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation project to aid the program me of the Administrative Staff College of India through which sanitation refinement is carried out in all the urban cities of Andhra Pradesh. India is getting focused in producing equipments which can detect river pollution.

Aim of the project:-
✓ The prolonged objective is to notify the State officials and its residents about the levels of chronic effluents which are close to weather and air pollution foretell.
✓ Take all the necessary measure to stop the river being polluted either punishing the wrong doers or awarding the right doers.

Facts about Godavari River:-
✓ The Godavari is the second longest river after Ganga in India. Its source is from Tryambakeshwar, Maharashtra.
✓ The name of its important tributaries is: - Pravara, Manjira, Indravati, Purna,
✓ Sabari and Pranhita.

✓ Godavari has its inception in Maharashtra and then it flows east for 1,465 kilometres and get submerged in the Bay of Bengal which drain the Indian states
✓ : Maharashtra (48.6%), Telangana (18.8%), Andhra Pradesh (4.5%), Chhattisgarh (10.9%), Madhya Pradesh (10.0%), Odisha (5.7%), Karnataka (1.4%) and Pondicherry through its tributaries.
✓ Godavari is of the largest river measuring 312,812 km2.
