Minesweeper deal to be inked soon

India and South Korea are finalizing the deal for 12 minesweepers for the Indian Navy After repeated delays and protracted negotiations .In the next two months  Commercial negotiations will be finalized. The Indian Navy is also involved in the technical negotiation which have been completed before hand. Vital Points : §   The cost incurred for 12 minesweepers or Mine Counter Measure Vessels is worth about 32,640 crores. All the ships would be manufactured in India under Transfer of Technology. §   The first ship will be delivered three years after the signing of contract . §    Minesweepers are beneficial in the detection of  mines and explosives planted by the enemy targeting our ships as they enter or leave the harbors. DEFENCE:- More Akash systems for Army

The Army’s global contest for Short Range Surface to Air Missile (SR-SAM) systems have been canceled by The Defence Ministry. Additionally two regiments were developed resulting in the incorporation of Akash missile systems. This decision was taken by Defence Minister Arun Jaitley at the meeting held at  t he Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) FACTS  about Akash Missile: The Akash missile is India’s first indigenous designed, developed and produced air defence surface-to-air missile system. §    Akash is a supersonic short range surface-to-air missile which is capable of neutralizing aerial threats. §        This missile system can neutralize multiple aerial targets coming from different directions at the same time. §        The maximum range of this missile is 25 kilometers. §    It can neutralize targets at a maximum altitude of 20 kilometers.
